January blues-busting feel good films

We are nearly a full month through 2017 and Christmas is feeling like a distant memory, but the days are colder and the pretty Christmas lights have been taken down. Enter: January blues.

We admit there are not too many selling points to January, so we have to look for inspiration elsewhere, luckily the sub-zero temperatures mean we don’t feel too guilty wrapping up in a blanket and binge watching movies and series- Netflix and Chai is our winter slogan.

In an attempt to bring some sunshine and warmth into these dark evenings, we decided to compile our ultimate list of Anti-January movies, let us know what you think of our choices.

  • The Secret life of Walter Mitty
  • Hook
  • Dirty Dancing
  • Pride
  • Top Gun
  • Bridget Jones’s Baby

Why We love these films:

1.The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: This is a film that bravely rejects cynicism. In many ways, it’s the new Forrest Gump. Go with it and it is, in all senses, wonderful.

Mitty

2.Hook: Everyone loves a throw-back to their childhood and this is no exception. It still conjures up those evenings of building duvet forts, eating popcorn and wishing we could escape to Neverland.

3.Dirty Dancing: Still the ultimate feel good chick flick. Who doesn’t love the line- “Nobody puts baby in the corner”, or the momentous final dance lift and it’s still got one of the best sound tracks- in our humble opinion.

4.Pride: Everything about this film is uplifting, whilst it is set in a very dark period of British history, they have taken that and made a life-enhancing piece of cinema, and exactly what you need to transcend the darkness of winter.

5.Top Gun: Where to start with what is right about this film… the sound track is epic, from the opening track to ‘welcome to the Danger Zone’. Then there’s the ‘bromance’ between Maverick and Goose before bromance was even a thing, throw in some Val Kilmer, sit back and enjoy.

Oscars

6.Bridget Jones’s Baby: No feel good list would be complete without a Bridget Jones movie and we’ve chosen the latest one. There are scenes in this film that had us in stitches, and you definitely don’t feel guilty watching it with some chocolate and a glass of vino!

So while it might be dark and cold outside, there are so many ways to stay warm and happy inside, give some of these movies a watch and let us know what you think.

We will be back with our list of series to binge watch, all in aid of conquering the January blues of course.
