Iconic movie scenes - Before & after CGI

We live in times when technology is developing as fast as it gets outdated. Those music CDs that you religiously collected now seem like dinosaurs, and does anybody know what happened to their first iPod?

On the brighter side of the coin, filmmakers who initially had to spend astronomical amounts of time and money in simulating impossible seeming cinematic effects using miniature models, matte paintings and trick photography found a game changer in CGI (Computer Generated Imagery). It’s a huge cost saver when the filmmakers can simply recreate exotic locations using CGI without having to port a huge team of cast and crew members from one corner of the world to the other. Also, those larger than life sequences you’re still salivating over from the Wonder Woman movie? All thanks to this nifty little art.

JURASSIC WORLD:

Remember the intelligent and loyal velociraptors who obeyed their Alpha to the hilt? Well, take a look at what these speedy thieves look like before and after the techies waved their magic wand.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:

Davy Jones is amongst the most memorable characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean, and you have CGI to thank for it. That blue-eyed stare goes from mildly piercing to downright piercing when combined with 46 tentacles to replace the beard.

THE DARK KNIGHT:

Anybody remember the amiable Harvey Dent of fore, before the acid attack hideously scarred his face? You’d be forgiven for saying no; such was the power of his transformation into the menacing super villain, Two Face.

LIFE OF PI:

Majority of the scenes from this movie featured a CGI created tiger instead of a real one, for the obvious reasons of the crew’s safety. The VFX team reportedly took over a year to study and mimic the look and movements of a real tiger using complicated simulations. Also, over 10 million computerized strands of hair went into the making! Good luck playing spot the difference between the real tiger in the movie and his CGI brethren.

THE AVENGERS:

While we salute the efforts of the CGI team that burned the midnight oil to make this masterpiece happen, there’s no denying the acting chops of Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans when having to emote against a monotonous green screen.
