“THE BEST WAY TO RECEIVE A SPOILER IS WATCHING IT HAPPEN LIVE!”

Engineer and a die-hard Game Of Thrones fan Felipe Ferri, lived his dream of being on the sets of the biggest show on TV. Though all the background artists are not given the main story script, Ferri sensed that something big was about to happen at King Joffrey’s wedding; which did actually double as his death scene!. He’ll always remember watching King Joffrey choke endless times to get the perfect shot.

“MUCH OF THE FILMING IS SHROUDED IN SECRECY”

“Given the huge numbers of background artists that are involved in each episode of the show, the production crew is really tight lipped about the location of the set”, says Denis Halligan who has been a part of the junior artist pool ever since the inception of the show. He adds that many times a car would pick him up at 5.30 a.m. and drive them to the set, so that way they aren’t hounded by fans. Also the background artists aren’t just a bunch of professional actors, but also a huge number of die-hard fans who come to breathe in the buzzing atmosphere.

“I HAVE MASSIVE RESPECT FOR THE ENTIRE TEAM WORKING BEHIND THE CAMERA”

Says Mark, who applied online for the post of a background artist on the show after being suggested by a friend. He adds, that each of them is given a custom-made outfit and then they would go for makeup and hair. He was surprised by their skills and care for details. The crew is practised with dealing with large numbers, and dozens of modern civilians walked out as Medieval residents in just 2 hours of makeup and hair. His one takeaway from the experience? It is a massive project which deserves respect for their hard work. Even a scene lasting for a few seconds onscreen would at times take an entire day to shoot.
